Back to 1961 in the Greater Khingan Mountains: Hunting Rare Game to Feed the Family

“Sigh, the rice jar’s empty again. Looks like we’ll have to make do with bear paw for dinner.”

Zhang Youwei, a special forces soldier from the 21st century, transmigrates to 1961 and becomes an ordinary villager in the Greater Khingan Range, Northeast China, on the verge of starving to death.

In the 1960s, supplies are scarce and life is unbearably hard.

What a disastrous start!

His father died young, his mother remarried, his little sister is still a child, and he himself is freezing and starving to death.

In his new family, his older siblings bully him mercilessly.

He doesn’t want to starve again or endure any more scorn.

Zhang Youwei has a plan. Since he has transmigrated, he won’t let his family go hungry or freeze.

He gazes at the snow-covered Greater Khingan Range, his eyes seeming to see through the landscape to the countless wild delicacies hidden among its forests and rivers.

Hares, black bears, wild boars, Amur tigers, roe deer, pheasants...

Game of every kind is everywhere.

With so much game around, why would they ever have to worry about food or clothing?
