The Tenth Defense

“I won nine cases I was supposed to lose. My tenth client said: Please defend me. The charge is murdering the previous nine clients.”...

My client is guilty, and the evidence is conclusive. But every piece of evidence is tainted with the pus and blood of illegal methods. Today, I ask the court to find him not guilty, not because he is innocent, but because if we use unlawful means to punish a criminal, we tell everyone that the law is nothing but a game of winning and losing. Only when due process protects even the devil can it protect the angels.
