The Song Dynasty's Medical King

During the Qinghe reign of the Great Song, impoverished young Zhou Nian'an saves a reclusive imperial physician at the edge of a cliff. The physician passes on everything he knows, making Zhou his sole disciple. After his master's death, Zhou uses his miraculous medical skills to cure the city lord's wife of her delusions and opens a clinic called the Heart's Ease. His remarkable cures earn him the title “Divine Physician.” Before long, the royal family takes notice. The Crown Prince and the Second Prince compete to win him over, drawing him into the struggle for the throne. When he diagnoses the emperor as having been poisoned, he helps His Majesty expose the mastermind behind it. Zhou becomes the most renowned physician in the Great Song, hailed as the Song dynasty's Medical King!

Later, Zhou Nian'an becomes embroiled in the emperor's quest for immortality. He witnesses Emperor Zhao Yan of Song pursue an illusory eternal life, favoring alchemists and bringing suffering upon the realm, until he loses his beloved, Princess Zhaoyang Zhao Ning. Zhou travels far to Kunlun, gathers allies, and raises an army. Leading the Snow Lotus Army, he kills the tyrant and ends the chaos. Then he casts aside his fame and fortune, returns to his clinic, and devotes himself to medicine once more. He uncovers the secrets of an ancient life-sustaining meridian, searches the land for magical herbs, and travels to Kunlun to gather the roots of heaven and earth, refining them into an elixir of immortality. Realizing that such an elixir would inevitably plunge the realm into turmoil, and that he has no one left in this world to whom he is attached, he refuses to take it. He constructs false and true tombs, lays nine layers of mechanisms, and seals himself away with the elixir and secret records. He leaves behind only his universal prescriptions to heal the sick and bring peace to the people, establishing a family precept that the legacy may be passed on again when the world finally reaches great harmony. Thus he composes a righteous epic of a physician who protects all living beings with a compassionate heart.
