The Wang Family’s Daughter

A slow-burn story with no wish-fulfillment, depicting the everyday lives of a generation. In the 1980s and 1990s, in an ordinary farming family on the North China Plain, a young girl named Yufeng grows up amid backbreaking farm work and material deprivation. The burdens of life and the whims of nature intertwine with her deep longing to “go to the city, become a worker, and earn a state salary,” leading her to consider a future unlike the one her parents had lived.
