The Rope Always Breaks at Its Thinnest Point, and Misfortune Finds the Unlucky

[Realistic + Heartbreaking + Rural Life + Human Nature + Social Realism]

In the bitter winter of 1983, the mute Chen Xiulian becomes a living blood bank, treated even worse than the era’s most despised “blood sellers,” all to keep her son alive.

She has no System, no second chance at life, only a spine bent by poverty.

Her ex-husband passes the college entrance exams, returns to the city, and makes it big, while she stays in the countryside, scraping for food like a dog.

She thinks that if she’s willing to suffer enough, she can keep her son alive. But fate is like a rusty sickle, and it won’t rest until it cuts her throat.

This is a story about silence, endurance, and eventual destruction.
