This book in no way glorifies crime or advocates violence. On the contrary, it attempts to use the most brutal realistic strokes to show how a dark road can swallow up everything that walks on it - dignity, emotions, conscience, and even souls.
If you feel uncomfortable while reading, that's normal. If you actually "understand" the protagonist's choice at certain moments, that is exactly what this book attempts to explore: the possibility of human nature being distorted in extreme circumstances.
Please do not imitate any of the behaviors in the book. Remember, all shortcuts come with a price tag, and the price of the dark path is that you will no longer recognize yourself in the mirror.
