Solving Cases Gets Me Promoted? Well, Now I'm Wide Awake

[Transmigration] + [Criminal Investigation] + [Officialdom]

Shen Xian transmigrated into an insignificant nobody at the Hanlin Academy. His life goal: slack off, wait to die, and enjoy a peaceful retirement.

Unfortunately, crimes happened wherever he went, and people died wherever he slept.

As his colleagues avoided him like the plague and his superiors tossed blame around like shooting stars, Shen Xian stared at the golden decree in his mind: “Solve a case, rise one rank,” and fell into thought.

If there’s no way to avoid it, then I’ll throw myself into the work!

He used chemistry to expose ancient poisoning methods, criminal psychology to profile serial killers, and statistics to dig up corrupt officials… His crime-solving efficiency astonished the entire court.

Just as he thought he could finally focus on a peaceful rise to wealth and power, he was cornered at the duty office by Situ Jing, the icy, powerful Commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard.

“Lord Shen, His Majesty has issued an order. From today onward, you report to me.”

Shen Xian: “…My lord, I only want a promotion, not to lose my life.”

Situ Jing raised an eyebrow and rested a hand on her sword. “Work cases with me and you’ll rise quickly. Or would you like to try defying the imperial decree?”

From then on, the capital gained an unusual pair of partners: he solved cases with science while she demolished things with brute force; he rose through the ranks on pure logic while she used her influence to keep him safe.
