Both father and son were underground members of the Chinese Communist Party. After the September 18th Incident in 1931, they were dispatched by the party organization to join the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces in Northeast China. Both father and son later died on the anti-Japanese battlefield. Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law depended on each other. They waited for fifty years, watched for fifty years, and suffered all the hardships in the world. Two pairs of empty bowls and chopsticks were left for fifty years until they passed away.
