Caught between an “elite” persona and his true self, this story explores how people in today’s cities can rediscover what really matters in life while caught between social classes. Thirty-five-year-old Chen Mo is a middle manager at a foreign company in Shanghai, living the “standard middle-class life” that makes his friends on social media envious. Then a wave of layoffs hits, and he is forced to join a mysterious project called “Double Life.” By day, he maintains his elite image; by night, he assumes a false identity and experiences life as a food delivery worker. These two entirely different lives gradually tear apart the world he so carefully built, forcing him to reconsider what success, family, and selfhood truly mean.
