The Emperor's Beloved, Forced to Love Him

Ruthless, unhinged emperor × aloof, proud illegitimate son

Shen Qingya, who bears a lotus tattoo, is the former empress's illegitimate son, hidden among the common people. But the new empress uses him as a pawn, sending him into the imperial palace to become Emperor Yongjing Xiao Che's captive lover.

The emperor's love is possessive and cruel. He gives Shen hope, then destroys it with his own hands: burning his examination paper after he comes first in the imperial exams, promising to take him to Jiangnan only to break his word, and using imperial power to keep him imprisoned.

With his stunning looks and quick wits, Shen Qingya navigates the harem's infighting and the court's political schemes to protect himself. From a patient, scheming beauty, he gradually falls into a desperate tangle of love and hate.

When Dongling invades, Shen Qingya seizes the upheaval at court as a chance to volunteer for the campaign in Handong, hoping to win his freedom through military achievements.

During the blood-soaked years on the frontier, he fights alongside General Gu Xuanye and unexpectedly uncovers the secret behind a thousand-year feud between two clans: the true culprit behind the Lotus Clan's destruction is Helian Xue, the bearer of the Tiger Seal, not Xiao Che, whom he hates with all his heart.

Meanwhile, a coup erupts in the capital. The Noble Consort and Prince Duan are killed for treason, leaving Shen Qingya with no family. His mind completely breaks.

After returning to the capital in triumph, the deranged Shen Qingya still cannot escape his confinement, while Xiao Che finally comes to regret everything at the height of his power.

He gives up the throne and takes Shen Qingya south in search of a cure, hoping to atone for the rest of his life.

Jiangnan's misty rains wash away the blood and pain. With Helian Xue's help, Shen Qingya regains his sanity, while Xiao Che's years of companionship through every bitter winter ease his obsession.

This tortured love, which began in coercion and chains, finally becomes a gentle reconciliation in the waterways of Jiangnan, where they stay together for the rest of their lives, redeemed like a phoenix reborn from the ashes.
