The Quirky Bank Teller and Her Devoted, Scheming Landlord
The year she took the college entrance exam, Qin Yi chose finance as her major, believing it was the first step toward meeting the influential people who would change her life.
Years later, those “influential people” became “people at the counter.”
Though really, she was more of a “yes-woman,” since she had to agree to whatever the customers said.
That’s right. After nineteen years of studying hard, Qin Yi became a bank teller.
Her biggest dream was to be her own boss, make money, and count it until her hands cramped.
She eventually achieved half of that dream: she became a bank teller and helped other people count money until their hands cramped.
The worst part was that she even had to count money for her former high school deskmate.
It’s not that you’re afraid your old classmate is struggling. You’re afraid they’ll show up in a Range Rover.
Yu Youheng, her nerdy deskmate back then, returned eleven years later as a landlord.
Yu Youheng thought Qin Yi didn’t like him.
In high school, he gave her tickets to the basketball finals, and she turned around and sold them.
Her reason had been perfectly sound: “To maximize utility.”
“How much did you sell them for?”
“Two thousand five hundred.”
Eleven years later, Yu Youheng walked into Qin Yi’s bank and pulled out a big bag of crumpled small bills. “Hello, I’d like to deposit this money.”
After counting it for ages, Qin Yi respectfully handed him a receipt. “Sir, that comes to 2,500 yuan. I’ve deposited it into your account.”
Two thousand five hundred.
Qin Yi felt her scalp prickle. No way. Had he held a grudge for eleven years?
Yu Youheng said solemnly, “To maximize utility, could I come to you for every deposit, every loan, and every transaction from now on?”
