Will You Kiss Me Tonight?

[School life + healing + reunion after years apart + happy ending]

[Contrary and world-weary VS carefree and unruly]

The first month Xia Miye knew Qu Chengfeng was the tenth year he had known her.

After her mother died when she was seven, she was taken back to the Xia family, where she lived amid neglect and bullying, growing into a silent, contrary girl. Until one rainy night, when she was driven from her home and a blinding motorcycle headlight pierced the darkness at the alley's entrance. Qu Chengfeng took her in.

The school's famously carefree troublemaker wore an insouciant smile, yet appeared time and again whenever she was in trouble. When she got locked in an empty classroom, he picked the lock. When people maliciously cornered her, he stood in front of her. Every time she thought the world had abandoned her, he appeared with a light.

After one coincidence too many, Xia Miye cornered him at a stairwell landing. “Qu Chengfeng, are you doing this on purpose?”

The boy turned and pinned her against the wall, his breath scorching. “Doing what? Getting people to bully you, then playing the hero and saving you?” He chuckled, his gaze so deep it burned. “Why would I go to all that trouble?”

“Who knows?”

“I don't need to beat around the bush,” he said, leaning closer and enunciating every word. “I can still make you mine.”

In the silence, Xia Miye lifted her eyes. For the first time, a spark flared in her ash-gray gaze. “We'll see who makes whom theirs.”

It turned out the deepest kind of salvation was for him to spend ten whole years laying an inescapable net around her.

And she was the only loss of control, and the only way home, in his calm, untamed world.

He was not her savior. He was an ambitious man who spent ten years bowing his head for her.
