[Underworld Civil Servant] [Modern Urban Ghost Stories] [Race Against Death] [Dark Comedy]
With only thirty days left to live, Zhuge Bai had nowhere else to turn, so he signed a part-time contract.
Employer: The Underworld's Office of Soul Guides.
Position: Temporary Soul Guide in the Mortal Realm.
Pay: By the job. Send one vengeful ghost on its way and gain three days of life.
KPI: Ten ghosts a month. Fail, and your soul is scattered.
And so, a new urban legend began circulating through the city:
The coffin shop owner who calmly whipped out a compass at haunted-house scenes;
The young Taoist who folded up a hundred-year-old ghost and stuffed it into a cloth bag;
The lunatic who chased a red-clad vengeful ghost, asking, “Can you hurry up? I've got another job after this.”
The great families of the mystic arts regarded him with a mix of awe and fear. “Fellow cultivator, this fiend is dangerous...”
Zhuge Bai glanced at his watch. “Make way, please. I need to clock out before midnight. The Underworld System is updating.”
The ghosts fled in terror. “Run! That junk collector is back!”
Then one day, an S-rank “Yin Soldiers Crossing the Mortal Realm” incident shook the entire city.
The great families braced for battle, and the official agencies went on high alert.
Meanwhile, Zhuge Bai, having just met his quota for the month, was slurping noodles at a street stall.
His phone buzzed with a notification from the Underworld:
[Emergency Overtime Mission: Intercept the Yin Soldiers.]
[Reward: Thirty days of life, plus the Underworld's full benefits package.]
Zhuge Bai put down his chopsticks and sighed.
“Another job outside my quota...”
“It's going to cost extra.”
