A Twelve-Year-Old Half-Blood Wizard's Guide to Surviving the Superhero Universe

(Everyone dotes on the protagonist. She's only twelve! Her judgment is still immature and she doesn't think everything through, because she's just a kid.) My name is Alex Winter, and I just finished my first year in Hogwarts' Slytherin house. My mom is a Taoist priestess, and my dad is a wizard. That means my summer vacation was never going to be peaceful. Okay, I admit it: things have gotten a little too exciting. Right now, I'm standing in the middle of the Battle of New York, watching all kinds of spaceships zip around overhead. I can only think one thing: Merlin, is Hogwarts' “summer fieldwork” for first-years a little too intense?! Later, in a city called Gotham, I saw a weird guy wearing a black hood. When he leaped at me, I was so scared I almost hit him with the Killing Curse. (At my first-year level, it would probably only make him sneeze, but I can't let him see me lose my nerve!) And that world where the streets are full of the walking dead? The first thing I do every morning is practice “Petrificus Totalus” on the zombies. My teammates look more and more conflicted every day. “I told you, I'm just a student who got lost,” I explain for the hundredth time. Now, this Slytherin first-year's summer fieldwork assignment has been forced to change to: “How to Stay Alive with Grace in the Multiverse and Make It Back to School on Time.” (And how to explain to Professor Snape that my summer fieldwork report really does include aliens and zombies.) The story centers on the protagonist's adventures, with mostly original plotlines and no romance.
