Toward the Sun: 2005

In 2005, Li Bing grows up in a broken family in a small Henan village. After his parents divorce, he is left behind, and he and his sister struggle to survive in the cold home of their paternal grandparents. He rebels in middle school and drifts through high school, until he meets Yang Xiaobing, a girl from Chengdu who takes him to try KFC for the first time. She is like a ray of light shining into his bleak youth. From graduating college to drifting through the city, from running a street stall to hitting setbacks as an entrepreneur, Li Bing stumbles forward through the tides of the times, with Yang Xiaobing faithfully by his side. This is a story of wounds and healing, humility and dignity. When a rural young man with nothing meets the love of his life, how will they find a way to grow a sunlit garden of their own in the cracks of reality?
