Bright Sword: From the Start, I Flatten the Battlefield with a 23Mm Autocannon

“Bright Sword never changes, but Cangyun comes and goes…” Northwestern Shanxi. Li Yunlong crouched behind a rock on the shaded side of a ridge, holding up the battered old binoculars “sponsored” by the brigade commander. He grumbled, “Damn it, is that Japanese supply convoy made up of turtles? They’ve been crawling along forever!” Zhang Dabiao lay beside him and whispered, “Commander, something’s not right.” “Look at that zigzag bend up ahead. It’s too quiet. Not even a bird lands there.” Li Yunlong adjusted the focus. Sure enough, the winding mountain road they had to take was flanked by gentle slopes and piles of rocks, perfect terrain for an ambush. But now it was utterly silent. Even the usual signs of movement in the wind seemed deliberately absent. “This is damn fishy…” he muttered. “Dabiao, get two men to check it out. Keep your eyes peeled!” Dabiao had just started calling for volunteers when everything changed! Boom! Boom! Boom!… The explosions didn’t come from their planned ambush site, nor from the direction the Japanese were coming from. They came from halfway up a sheer cliff behind and to the side of the convoy, an unremarkable stretch of rock that was almost vertical! Rubble and smoke erupted violently from the mountainside, as if an invisible giant fist had scooped them out! But what followed was not the muffled thud of shells or grenades exploding. It was an extremely sharp, violent tearing sound, something Li Yunlong and every veteran in the Independent Regiment had never heard before. Dudududududu!!! The reports were so rapid they almost merged into one, and carried incredible penetrating force, like dozens of heavy machine guns pouring fire into a tiny area at once. Yet they were heavier and more abrupt than the roar of machine guns, with a metallic grinding quality
