Synopsis

When the incense dies out, old debts of fate must be settled anew

[Slow Burn + Not a Power Fantasy + Protagonist’s Growth + No Overpowered Lead]

Thirty years ago, Taoist priest Kuang Zhengqing of Taiqing Palace on Mount Laoshan in Island City died mysteriously on a mountain path.

The official explanation was a dispute over incense offerings. Folk rumors said he was murdered. No one dared ask questions after that.

Thirty years later, Kuang Chengyi, the priest’s grandson, graduates from university and returns to Island City.

He doesn’t practice Taoism or believe in fate. All he wants is to keep his head down and live an ordinary life as an office worker.

But from the moment he sets foot on Mount Laoshan,

strange things begin happening one after another

Some people die sudden deaths, some strike it rich, and some fall into ruin overnight.

The police can find no explanation,

but every clue eventually points to the same place:

Mount Laoshan, Taiqing Palace, and an old account that was never settled.

What was cut off all those years ago was not just the incense,

but also the question of who would bear the burden of fate.

Any similarities between this story and real life are purely coincidental.

Books About People Experiencing Supernatural Events in Real Life

Looking for books like "Fourteen Years of Ghost Hunting (Complete in Five Volumes)". I want stories about real paranormal cases. It’d be even better if there’s a chapter showing what happens to people who abuse small animals! (I really want to know what becomes of them.)

Please, Please, Please: Folk Taoist Arts Plus Horror

Something about a Taoist priest who knows magic arts and solves all kinds of supernatural cases among ordinary people. I’d prefer it to feel grounded and connected to everyday life. The key elements: folk traditions, Maoshan Taoism, and horror, really terrifying horror.
