"Cloud Mirror Garden" is based on the social changes in China from 1937 to 1997, and tells the story of Su Jingshu and Zhou Yunshen's persistence and inheritance spanning half a century. In 1937, on the eve of the fall of Shanghai, Su Jingshu, a girl who loved plants, and Zhou Yunshen became attached to each other because of a heart orchid. In the Zhou family garden, which was a combination of Chinese and Western styles, the two took care of the greenhouse and studied gardening together, and even got involved in a secret national salvation operation in the turbulent situation.
The war separated each other. They took the plant seeds and secrets they collected together and stood firm on the battlefield in western Yunnan, the occupied areas of Hong Kong, and the capital of Chongqing, using gardening as a cover to pass on information and protect lives. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the two returned to Shanghai and rebuilt gardens on the ruins, closely linking their personal destiny with the development of the country.
From guarding rare plants and information during wars to deeply cultivating plant research, promoting horticultural techniques, and carrying out science education in peacetime, they have gone through ups and downs and always used the tenacity of plants to resist the hardships of the times. The garden has witnessed the trauma of war, regime changes, and social changes. Su Jingshu, Zhou Yunshen, and their descendants have spent their lives practicing the belief that "although mountains and rivers are broken, seeds are immortal", making the garden a symbol of the inheritance of life and the continuation of hope.
