The protagonist, Qin Mo, is a programmer at a major internet company who has given up trying. After awakening a “Proficiency Panel,” he can grind any skill, from programming and cooking to arguing and haggling, all the way to max level. With layoffs looming, Qin Mo plans to go with the flow, take his N+1 severance pay, and leave. But on his final day, he casually fixes an epic bug that even the CTO couldn’t handle, then makes a bowl of noodles in the break room so delicious that passing CEO Jiang Yingxue bursts into tears.
To keep this technical talent (and chef) around, Jiang Yingxue uses her CEO privileges to reject his resignation and forces her way into his life under the pretext of making him her “personal bodyguard/private assistant.” A hypocritical vice president plots to bring down the company through corporate espionage. Qin Mo uses his goofy approach to turn the tables and defuse each crisis, while keeping the gluttonous CEO well fed. In the end, Qin Mo goes from a coder who just wanted to lie flat to the hidden guardian of a business empire. He not only reaps success in his career, but also turns the aloof CEO into his biggest fan.
