The Savior Spends Every Day in Yokohama Figuring Out How to Survive

Bungo Stray Dogs + Touken Ranbu

Hakama Hikaru, 22, was an ordinary Yokohama resident who had just inherited a host club, until she ran into a fox in an alley that could talk.

“Please wait!”

Hikaru’s first reaction wasn’t fear. She crouched down and poked the ears of the fox, who introduced himself as Konnosuke. “Wait, you can really talk?”

Simply curious about the surreal existence of a “talking fox,” Hikaru went with Konnosuke to what he called a government interview. Then she saw the profiles of the sword warriors:

Mikazuki Munechika, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Kashuu Kiyomitsu, Yamatonokami Yasusada...

Staring at the faces on the screen, each one a work of art, Hikaru found herself picking up a pen before she could stop herself. “You said I should sign where?”

Konnosuke blinked. “Regarding your hourly pay and work duties...”

“Don’t need to hear it.” Hikaru scribbled her name. “If I get to have these faces in my life, I’d do it even if I had to pay.”

And so, for the simple reasons that “a fox talking is so amazing” and “these swordsmen are so handsome that I’d regret not signing up,” Hikaru became the new Saniwa and returned to Yokohama with her starter sword.

Then she discovered it wasn’t so simple. First, she had to come up with plausible identities for these sword warriors who had suddenly appeared. After all, she couldn’t exactly tell her neighbors at the Armed Detective Agency, “This one is a sword from the Warring States period”
