In the 1990s, Lin Wanzhao, a sixteen-year-old girl from the provincial capital, was abducted by human traffickers and taken to Zhao Family Village deep in the mountains. She became the “wife” of Zhao Tiezhu, a bachelor, and fell into a darkness from which there seemed to be no escape. She endured captivity, abuse, and the despair of repeated failed escape attempts. The word “Escape” was branded onto her back, yet she never stopped longing for freedom.
After she was caught and dragged back from another escape attempt, Wanzhao leapt from a cliff in despair. Her soul merged with the mountains, and she became a mountain spirit bearing the memories of three hundred years of wronged souls. Using the mountain as her medium, she took precise revenge on the villagers involved in trafficking and abuse. One guilty person after another died in eerie ways.
Meanwhile, Wanzhao’s daughter, Xiaoman, escaped the mountains with the help of a boy named Xiaoshitou and was adopted by her maternal grandparents. Wanzhao, now a mountain spirit, gradually lost her humanity but held on to her last attachment: she watched over Xiaoman as she grew up, and made the mountain a witness to and warning against evil.
Set against the tragedy of human trafficking, the novel weaves together desperate resistance, eerie revenge, and the bonds of family. It condemns the evil in human nature while celebrating the resilience of those trapped in dire circumstances. In the mountain spirit’s eternal vigil, it leaves readers with profound questions about justice and redemption.
It looked okay from the beginning, the story was written in a very real and down-to-earth way, and Wan Zhao's despair and struggle made people feel distressed and moved. Every time Wan Zhao tried, I sweated for her. After the failure, I would also think about how to better avoid it, and how to learn from experience to make the next one a success. I was still looking forward to how Wan Zhao would escape in the end, how to reunite with her parents, and how to bring Xiao Man and Xiao Shitou to live a happy life, but later the story turned to the mountain soul resentment. Going in an unrealistic direction such as air exchange, etc., I instantly felt uninteresting. Obviously the early stage was very good. If it is written in a realistic direction, it will not only allow us to better understand and appreciate the hardship of being abducted into the mountain and the tenacity and non-giving up of trying our best to escape the mountain, but also provide some reference for everyone on what to do if you really encounter this situation. So I feel it is a pity. Of course, this is just my personal idea. I just feel it is a pity.
Really good work! Let the readers feel hatred, love, and finally feel relieved. May the world be free of crutches!
After reading it 😢, a lot of things I wanted to say have now been reduced to one sentence: I wish there would be no cripples in the world!!!!!! All adults, young people, and children can have a bright future and a happy family.
The wife is so well-written 😢 😢 There is a deep sadness between the lines. I wish there would be no more trafficking in the world!
🥺 I hope justice will never be absent
It's been a long time since I read a novel. This one is okay. It makes people want to read it.
The bad guys all have to be punished, it's so hateful. I've listened to it many times, it's very good, I never tire of it!
The writing is very good and brings the reader into the scene.
Read it in one sitting At first I thought I was just writing a story about abducted girls, but the scenes after being abducted were really uncomfortable. I read the story while listening to the book and reading the text when I wasn't busy. During this process, my emotions were kept inside, making it impossible for me to laugh at all in reality (I really didn't laugh at all yesterday) It was very depressing and sad for the people who were abducted in the stories, especially after becoming a mother myself. I can understand why those who had children "couldn't run anymore" and "finally compromised"... In addition, the people in the village, from the layers of people who controlled the entire abduction to the descriptions of those who ignored the fun and watched, all felt that it was really real and had a deep sense of despair. The heroine at that age is really strong! I just didn't expect that the follow-up plot would be about supernatural things. I'm not denying that there are supernatural things, nor do I think supernatural things are bad. It's just that if this situation really exists in reality, it's impossible for everyone to have the opportunity to meet the supernatural, which makes it unrealistic. Therefore, many people in the book reviews said that the death of the heroine is not good, and this may be the reason. (Of course, the setting of the story type may be supernatural rather than documentary at the beginning. I am just expressing my feelings.) Overall, I personally like this story very much, because it suddenly inspired me a little, because I personally believe in gods and have that kind of awe. The movies and TV dramas we watch about gods and goddesses now, in which there are all kinds of emotions, have turned into ancient puppet dramas, which makes people naturally think that gods also have emotions. However, the book describes in great detail the process of the heroine transforming into a mountain spirit step by step, which requires her to lose her "human" characteristics step by step. I immediately thought of Xingzhi with Feng Xing (although that drama is also an ancient puppet, and it did not escape the element of love in the end), because the setting of Xingzhi is the ancient gods, and gods are ruthless and loveless. Only in this way can we really treat everyone equally, and not like humans who are judged by emotions and "display divine power" at will, in which case everything will be messed up. I was a little late after reading it yesterday and didn't have time to write a book review. I'll make it up today. Cheers, author!
