Ordinary World: Falling for Sister Runye

Lin Feng transmigrates into The Ordinary World. When he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a drafty, dilapidated cave dwelling. His hands are calloused, and survival looms over him like the most imposing mountain of all.

He knows what this land is about to go through: the resumption of the college entrance examinations, the introduction of the household responsibility system, and the people whose names he has read countless times in the book: Sun Shaoping, Tian Xiaoxia, Tian Fujun, and Tian Runye, the gentle and kind woman whose fate is so full of hardship. They will all live out their joys and sorrows on this yellow earth.

But this time, he wants the story to unfold a little differently.

He tells Shaoping, “Knowledge can show you the sky beyond the mouth of the well.”

He hints to Xiaoxia, “Some exams are worth preparing for over four years.”

He says softly to Runye, “Some people are wonderful, but that doesn’t mean they’re right for you for the rest of your life.”

In the softest corner of his heart, he always carries Tian Runye, the woman who teaches at the county’s elementary school. He watches her grieve over a love with no hope, sees her forced to accept an unhappy marriage, and remembers how she walked that tear-stained path in the original story. This time, Lin Feng wants to hold an umbrella over her in his own way.

This is not simply a tale of defying fate. It is about a clear-eyed soul carefully finding a way through a difficult era.

From a broken cave dwelling on the loess slopes to the classrooms of Huangyuan Middle School, from the county library to the provincial Department of Agriculture, Lin Feng gradually forges his own path. But he never forgets that afternoon, when Runye stood at the entrance to the elementary school classroom, the setting sun gilding her in gold as she smiled gently and asked, “Lin Feng, do you think people can really control their own destinies?…”
