In the shadows of the city, another kind of time lies hidden.
Lu Yan, a writer of books on folklore, is forced to move into a "haunted house." He is its seventh tenant, and the previous six all met untimely deaths. One rainy night, he feels around inside a wall and finds an old subway ticket. A line of tiny text appears on it: "The seventh passenger has disembarked."
Thus he enters a bizarre world concealed behind the modern city:
A ghost bus that appears on schedule on rainy nights, carrying the souls of those who drowned in a river ten years ago;
A deathly livestream where every like corresponds to a corpse in the real world;
Fish in an abandoned aquarium that never close their eyes, gazing at humanity's dreams of sinking into ruin...
Lu Yan forms a team with three other "anomalous ones" chosen by fate:
Qin Sa, a retired special forces soldier who wields a family heirloom dagger capable of severing invisible corruption;
Shen Xinghe, a scientist devoted to reason who insists on explaining every supernatural phenomenon through science;
Lin You, a teenage hacker tracking clues about her missing parents on the dark web.
They discover that every incident points to a mysterious organization called "Kunlun" and a vast plan spanning decades: "Guixu."
And Lu Yan's sister, missing for many years, turns out to be the most important key to the plan.
As the boundary between reality and illusion begins to crumble,
will they close that door,
or open it and welcome the "brand-new" world beyond?
"Remember, amid the hidden currents, staying alive is itself the deepest taboo."
