Overworked office drone Lin Tian is hit by a truck and sent hurtling into a scam compound in northern Myanmar.
On the brink of death, he binds to the Mercenary Training System.
[Mission: Rescue a hundred ethnic Chinese compatriots and evacuate with zero casualties.] [Failure: Instant death.]
Dragging a broken leg, he gets it done.
The System rewards him with the coordinates of a patch of dense forest on the border. There's nothing there.
Behind him are pursuers, poisonous miasma, and man-eating mountain spirits. His mortally wounded companions lie on stretchers. He doesn't know when the “white light” that shattered an entire mountain ridge will strike again.
The point marked “Eaglet's Nest” on the map is still seventy kilometers away.
He doesn't know whether it's a way out. But he has nowhere else to go.
