A Four-Year-Old Playing with Poisonous Bugs Turns Out to Be the Capital’s Little Princess

[1990s + adorable child + hidden identity + extreme contrast + Gu techniques]

In 1992, deep in the mountains of the Daba Mountains, in Li Family Village.

Four-year-old A Man is cursed as a “jinx.” She lives in a drafty woodshed, eats moldy sweet potatoes, and is often beaten by her awful adoptive mother and her family. No one knows that this little girl, covered in mud and always muttering to herself at bugs, has mastered the long-lost art of Gu medicine.

At that very moment, Old Master Gu, a renowned medical authority with immense influence in the capital, is calling in every favor he can, even going so far as to shut down the train stations, all to find his only granddaughter, who was kidnapped years ago.

When her adoptive mother steals the “broken bug-shaped silver pendant” hanging around A Man’s neck to trade for candy, she has no idea it is a sacred heirloom that commands the entire world of traditional Chinese medicine!

The Gu family of the capital: “Anyone who lays a hand on our A Man will pay, no matter how far away they are!”
