Set in occupied Beiping in 1942, the story follows Zhou Shuan, a former laboratory technician at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. After the Japanese seize his younger sister under the pretext of “epidemic prevention,” he boldly infiltrates their lair and witnesses the horrifying truth of live experiments hidden beneath the guise of “advanced medicine.” With the help of patriotic resistance fighters, he risks everything to obtain crucial evidence. He then follows the victims aboard Rongfeng Maru, a biological warfare laboratory ship known as the “ship of hell.” Trapped in desperate circumstances, he and his comrades do everything they can to preserve the evidence, eventually sinking a “time capsule” containing a full record of the crimes into the depths, where it awaits discovery by future generations.
