Wang Yuan transmigrates into the role of county magistrate of Chongquan in the Great Qin dynasty. His greatest wish is simply to lie flat, slack off, and live in peace, coasting on the System’s rewards. But fate has other plans. A trip to a birthday banquet leads him to stumble into the struggle over the Great Qin succession and a conspiracy by the remnants of the Six Kingdoms to overthrow the dynasty. The sweet potato cultivation and benevolent-enfeoffment policies he mentions offhandedly are hailed as doctrine by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, and he rises overnight to become a rising star at court. But this also makes him the greatest obstacle in the eyes of the Xiang clan’s uncle-and-nephew duo, Xiang Liang and Xiang Yu, who seek to overthrow the tyrannical Qin.
Before the political struggle in Xianyang Palace can settle, the Xiang clan’s surprise night attack and assassination attempt arrive. Gifted with “the strength of a conqueror” by the System and armed with the “French Army’s finest weapon,” a baguette, Wang Yuan is forced to switch from lazy-fish mode to combat mode. When he accidentally kills Xiang Liang in a fight to the death and faces the wrath of Xiang Yu, the Hegemon-King of Western Chu, he finally realizes he has long since strayed from his path of lying flat and become a pivotal force capable of shifting the fate of the Great Qin. On one side is the favor and suspicion of the First Emperor; on the other, the desperate counterattack of the Six Kingdoms’ remnants, while he is also caught in the storm of the succession struggle between Fusu and Huhai. Can Wang Yuan emerge unscathed from the treacherous political games of the Qin court? And how will history’s course be dramatically altered by the unexpected intervention of this laid-back county magistrate?
