Synopsis: A raging fire in a medical tent at the frontier burned away the past.
Yu Xiaoye, a wounded healer who had lost her memories, was rescued from a mountain of corpses and sea of flames by Shen Jingzhi, a military adviser serving with the remnants of a defeated army. They later fled to Jiangnan, married, and had a young son, A-Nian. After the baby’s hundred-day celebration, Shen Jingzhi returned to the battlefield, promising to secure a bright future for his wife and child.
By then, peace was gradually returning to the frontier. Xiao Jinyan, the general who defended the north, restored military discipline, rallied scattered troops, and proved adept at recognizing and employing talent. Shen Jingzhi was promoted ahead of his peers, rose through the ranks, and ultimately fulfilled his promise.
Four years later, after a great victory in the northern frontier, the army returned in triumph. At a celebratory banquet in the general’s mansion in Lin’an, Yu Xiaoye accompanied her husband, only to have her fate suddenly seized by Xiao Jinyan, a man whose power reached across the court. He was the young general she had forgotten, the old acquaintance with whom she had secretly pledged her life at the frontier, and the powerful man about to destroy her peaceful life and imprison her at his side by force.
To claim the woman he loved, Xiao Jinyan destroyed the peace of her family and shattered Shen Jingzhi’s promising career. When he first met A-Nian, he felt nothing but dislike and ruthlessly tore mother and son apart. But after several clashes, Yu Xiaoye’s quiet determination to protect her child moved him. His cold heart gradually softened, until he came to cherish her child as his own.
