In the early 1940s, in the forests and snowy wilderness of Northeast China, Anti-Japanese United Army captain Geng Xiaoshan is ordered to infiltrate the lair of the notorious bandit “Lord Huo,” Eagle Beak Cliff, to investigate the bandits' collusion with the Japanese and uncover the truth behind his father's disappearance.
The mission goes wrong from the start, and the squad is surrounded. At their most desperate moment, a pack of wolves descends like divine reinforcements, tearing apart their pursuers while sparing the Anti-Japanese United Army. Xiaoshan is stunned to discover that the leader of the pack, a giant wolf with a slight limp in its left leg, looks at him like an old friend long lost. It is Hui Mao, the wolf cub he rescued as a child and was later forced to release. Now it is the ruler of the snowy wilderness.
A man and a wolf reunite in enemy territory.
Disguised as a hunter, Xiaoshan infiltrates the stronghold and walks a tightrope between the suspicious Lord Huo and his cold-blooded second-in-command, searching for a fellow operative codenamed “Mountain Locust.” Every step is perilous.
Outside the stronghold, the Wolf King watches from everywhere: eerie bonfires in the dead of night, fresh paw prints beneath the walls, howls carrying messages across the night sky... This game is not being played by humans alone.
As human cunning collides with the wolves' shadowy instincts in this icy prison, a secret battle quietly begins. But Xiaoshan must discover the truth: Is the returned Wolf King an old friend here to protect him, or a hunter with ulterior motives?
