[A sweet romance, mutual pretense, happy ending]
While saving a chubby orange cat, Shao Lin, a retired esports legend, slips and falls into the water. He is rescued by Yu Yi, a Taoist priest.
When he wakes, he finds himself facing a pair of eyes as cool and clear as a deep pool, and hears a quiet voice say, “I am Han Zhang, a humble Taoist.”
Shao Lin assumes the man is “so poor he needs a handout.” To fend off pressure to get married, he simply signs an agreement with him:
A fake marriage, no interference in each other’s affairs, and a pleasant partnership.
Only later does he learn that the seemingly impoverished young Taoist who sets up a stall in the park can sell a single calligraphy or painting for enough to feed an ordinary person for ten years.
Yu Yi, meanwhile, gradually discovers that this man who claims to be “unemployed” and scraping by with paid gaming is actually a legend known throughout the esports world.
After their true identities are revealed, the two return to the old apartment they had rented to “pretend to be poor.”
Shao Lin pins him against the door, his breath burning hot. “Daoist priest, how should I repay you for saving my life?”
Yu Yi’s fingertips trace an old scar on his wrist, his gaze calm and clear. “…Didn’t we agree this was only a partnership?”
Shao Lin lowers his head and kisses the spot beside his ear.
“I don’t want to be partners anymore.”
“I want to make our pretend romance real.”
Saving the cat was an accident; falling in love was inevitable.
I thought I wanted to repay you, but later I realized I only wanted to hold you.
