An Unofficial Observation Report on Deaths That Appear Natural

When civilization uses faith as kindling to ignite the blaze of mechanical ascension, the light illuminates more than the altar. It also reveals the coordinates it has offered to the depths of space.

The Church's "Divine Manifestation Project" aims to mass-produce mechanical saints and create artificial gods. This fanatical undertaking first tears humanity apart: Templar Knights, evolved superpowered individuals, government troops, and militias fight bloody battles in every corner of the planet.

Amid this civil war between divine authority and reason, a four-person squad moves through the crossfire. They are more than soldiers: they are clear-eyed souls trying to hit the brakes as civilization hurtles toward the edge of a cliff.

Yet the true apocalypse has nothing to do with humanity's infighting. When the "flame" of ascension burns bright enough, it awakens something, from the depths of the star sea, or something that has existed since time immemorial. A cataclysm descends, taking a form humanity cannot understand and driven by an indifferent purpose.

And so the script is brutally rewritten. On one side, humanity slaughters itself for the delusion of godhood. On the other, a purge on a cosmic scale quietly draws near. Trapped between these two annihilations, the four face their final choice: let civilization burn itself to ashes that draw in predators, or, in mortal bodies, defy all odds by slaying the false gods of the human world and resisting the calamity from beyond the heavens?

This is the end of human civilization, and the light of reason that remains at its funeral.
