Synopsis

The tenth year of Xianfeng, the Gengshen year.

Chen Yiren, a Hanlin Academy scholar awaiting appointment, finds a fragment that should not exist, tucked into the lining of an Atlas of the Imperial Territories and Lands of the World that is about to be destroyed.

On it, in plain sight, are the words: “Ming Protectorate of the Far West.”

Why does a foreign envoy look exactly like a renowned minister of the current dynasty?

Why are there gears buried beneath the Old Summer Palace, dating back three hundred years?

A single fragment draws a frenzied manhunt by the city's Imperial Bodyguards.

Only then does Chen Yiren understand: he has not been restoring an artifact, but uncovering a truth that has been altered for three hundred years.

Historical Fiction! The Characters Must Have Brains!!

Are there stories where a modern person transmigrates back to ancient times and uses their profession to make a difference? Like a doctor who transmigrates to the past and advances medicine within the limits of the era, or a modern special forces expert who transmigrates to ancient times and builds an army using modern ideas. Or just invent penicillin or something. From the start, they pull out an AK-47.
