Others taught him to understand yin and yang, evade death, and prolong his life. Still others taught him to hear and perceive the truth, so that everything became clear to him. He did not understand what any of it meant, but he knew that learning these things would let him protect her, so he studied as hard as he could.

Later, he learned to take human form and communicate telepathically. The first time he called her by name, he said, "Rong Rong."
