A silent mutation began on a rainy night in New Zealand.
Eclipse Cells, a deep-sea symbiote artificially twisted and enhanced, became an invisible "Primordial Breath" that blanketed the entire island as its "Mother" wailed and self-destructed. The cells in humans and animals were forcibly "activated," turning them into inefficient energy-conversion furnaces and leaving them with an insatiable hunger. Gluttony became the only instinct for survival.
In a single night, order collapsed and dining tables became battlefields. Supermarkets were looted, neighbors turned against each other, and a predator's gleam appeared in the eyes of once-gentle pets. New Zealand, the beautiful Pacific nation, was instantly transformed into "Devil's Island," sealed off from the outside world while a bloody spectacle of evolution played out within.
Bai Yi, a Chinese chef trapped there, had only the knife in his hand and his deep understanding of "ingredients" as weapons. And the one he had to protect was Momo, the little girl he had "picked up" on that rainy night, a tiny angel who was gradually losing her sight yet seemed able to hear the world's cries of anguish.
While most people were still eating frantically and passively mutating into horribly distorted monsters, Bai Yi used a chef's instincts to begin deciphering the code of evolution through "eating." He discovered that this was not an irresistible curse, but a cruel set of evolutionary laws full of randomness and danger.
From using his culinary skills to identify safe food to actively hunting mutated creatures; from enduring the agony of genetic fusion to trying to guide the course of his own evolution... He and his daughter, along with a Shar-Pei that was changing too, struggled to survive on this monster-infested island.
