In her past life, she was the “substitute” he never gave a second thought to. In this life, she was the light he could never win back, no matter how hard he tried or how deeply his obsession ran.
Du Yu was reborn on the eve of his divorce from Shen Yi.
In his previous life, he was blinded by lies and saw her as a scheming woman who had slept her way into his bed. For three years, he neglected and humiliated her.
Now, he tore up the divorce papers, hoping to warm the heart he had frozen long ago with clumsy acts of atonement and protection.
But she only looked at him calmly, weariness and distance in her eyes. “Du Yu, let me go.”
She no longer hoped to be reborn. After signing the divorce papers, all she wanted was to escape that gilded cage, even if it meant waiting tables at a restaurant and living in a shabby rental, just to breathe a little free air.
Then dirty accusations were hurled at the work she treasured, and a trap left her bound on a cliff on a deserted island.
As she plunged into the sea, she saw Du Yu’s face contorted with anguish and felt a hint of relief. At least now they were even.
Later, the whole city knew that the ruthless head of the Du family had gone mad.
He used every resource at his disposal to crush his enemies, searching day and night for the stretch of sea that had swallowed her.
People said Shen Yi was dead, and that not even her bones had been found.
But clutching an old diary and an empty thermos, he was torn apart by regret until he bled, every day before dawn.
Until one day
A woman rescued at sea, her face unrecognizable, was brought to the hospital emergency room.
Meanwhile, in a VIP room on the top floor, Du Yu, just revived after a failed suicide attempt, slowly opened his eyes…
It's quite interesting. The heroine's indifference is indeed to protect herself, but I think the heroine's temper is too good. Even when she gets hurt, she just wants to stay away. After the male protagonist, I don't feel like she likes him, but more like someone who makes up for the heroine as an important protector.
