The Biography of Lu Muzhen

Lu Muzhen led an ordinary life, yet a remarkable one. She was an embodiment of women in the old era, but possessed a resilience and tolerance that transcended her time. Her marriage to Sun Yat-sen began with a union arranged by their parents and matchmakers, and ended with a single written word, "Agreed," that set him free. She did not complain or resent him. Instead, she chose to bear it quietly and remain steadfast on her own. Through her life, she showed what it means to "stand by each other through hardship, yet let each other go and live apart." She made Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary cause possible, and made a life for herself as well. Though she left no vivid mark on history's stage, she influenced those around her in her own way, and continues to influence us today. Even now, Longtouzuo Lane in Macau remains quiet. The modest courtyard has long since passed into new hands. But the magnolias in its garden still bloom every spring, their fragrance drifting through the entire lane, as if telling the story of Lu Muzhen's peaceful yet steadfast years. Her story may not have been as passionate as the love between Soong Ching-ling and Sun Yat-sen, nor as rousing as Qiu Jin's, but her tolerance, resilience, and integrity shine like a brilliant pearl in the river of history. She reminds us that in those turbulent times, women could be more than supporters of revolution: they could also be independent, strong individuals with dignity. History may leave a space blank, but integrity endures. Her life deserves to be remembered forever. Her story will continue to be told through the ages, inspiring more people to meet life's partings and hardships with tolerance and resilience, and to hold fast to their integrity and dignity.
