Lin Huiyin

Lin Huiyin was one of the most legendary women of the twentieth century. Though frail in health, in her 51 years she established China’s first architecture department, discovered the Foguang Temple timber structure dating back to the Tang dynasty, designed the national emblem and the Monument to the People’s Heroes, and left behind poetry that would never be forgotten. As her love stories are endlessly retold, we forget how she surveyed ancient architecture amid the flames of war, wrote books from her sickbed, and defended historic cities through political storms. This is no romantic tale. It is the hard-won life of a woman racing against time and struggling against fate. Discover how the goddess of Republican-era China answered the question: What makes a life truly extraordinary?
