Modern transmigrator Li Shu arrives in the Tang Dynasty. After being imprisoned for speaking up for a fellow townsman, he is unexpectedly discovered by Changsun Wuji, who notices that he possesses a dragon-shaped jade pendant connected to the prematurely deceased prince Li Kuan. Changsun Wuji secretly arranges a place for Li Shu to stay. When Empress Changsun learns of him, she visits in plain clothes, confirms they are related by blood, and accepts him as her godson. Li Shu establishes himself in Chang'an with his sugar-making skills. Along the way, he befriends his neighbors, the Yun family father and daughter, and has chance encounters with figures such as Qin Huaiyu. He also inadvertently reveals military secrets of the Tang Dynasty and mysteries surrounding the princes, intertwining his fate with the imperial Li family.
