Wukong's Master Is Your Backer in Journey to the West!

Wu Di opens his eyes and finds himself as the most mysterious figure in Journey to the West: Patriarch Bodhi, Sun Wukong’s master.

His System rewards him a hundredfold whenever one of his disciples breaks through a level.

Looks like I really am invincible. Wukong, don’t be afraid, your patron is here.

Seeing Sun Wukong still ruling as the Monkey King on Flower-Fruit Mountain, Wu Di grins.

“Monkey, want to learn something different?”

And so, Journey to the West begins to go off the rails:

Havoc in Heaven? I bring Zhen Yuanzi, Minghe, Houtu, and Kunpeng, my four partners, to teach a live lesson: “Wukong, watch closely. This is how you flip the table.”

The tightening spell? I turn around and put the “Spell of Loosening the Hoop” on Wukong: “If it hurts, just recite it back. Who’s afraid of whom?”

The Eighty-One Tribulations? I rewrite the script: “Guanyin, my disciple has passed this tribulation. Where’s his reward? Nothing? Then don’t bother arranging the next one either.”

At last, at the end of the pilgrimage, before the Great Thunderclap Temple on Spirit Mountain,

Tathagata looks at the figures behind Wu Di:

Wukong hefts his As-You-Will Iron Staff, his Chaos Demon Ape bloodline unleashed;

Zhen Yuanzi’s Earth Book stretches across thirty thousand miles;

Minghe’s sea of blood hangs upside down across the ninth heaven;

Houtu’s Wheel of Reincarnation turns yin and yang;

Kunpeng’s wings blot out the sun and moon.

“Bodhi,” Tathagata finally asks, “what is it you really want?”

Wu Di steps forward. The System roars within him, and seven fragments of Primordial authority burn at once.

“I want to, ”

He grins.

“Give this Journey to the West a different ending.”

I transmigrated as Patriarch Bodhi and took Sun Wukong as my disciple.

In this life, I won’t teach him to bow his head. I’ll teach him to be a monkey! To be himself!

I’ll teach him to pierce the heavens.

I’ll be the toughest backer he could ask for!

Then we’ll find out together

what lies beyond the hole!
