Where Are the Green Hills? This Is My Home

Shanghai, 1930. Song Zechuan, a rising star in diplomacy, meets the outspoken journalist Xu Jingyi at a banquet. He is a gentleman from a distinguished family who has returned from studying abroad, carrying the family mission of becoming a good statesman and physician. She is the daughter of a prominent family in Jiangbei, using her pen as a weapon to expose society’s ills. Their ideas clash, but admiration quietly takes root. As Japan invades China and Shanghai falls, they join forces to establish an underground network for medical supplies, pledging their lives to one another in an unbreakable bond.

Meanwhile, Song Zechuan’s closest friend, Pei Yunshao, a brilliant figure in the police force, falls passionately in love with Xu Jingyi’s younger sister, Xu Zhaoning. Their love is tested amid the flames of war. Family fortunes, brotherhood, and duty to the nation intertwine. Song Zechuan leaves public service to go into business, safeguarding the lifeline of the pharmaceutical industry, while Xu Jingyi rallies people through her writing and works on the front lines of the resistance. But on the eve of dawn, a carefully plotted explosion parts the lovers forever, one in life and one in death...

Half a century later, their descendants bring their ashes home and bury them together at the site of their wedding banquet. The smoke of war has cleared, but their bond remains unbreakable. This is the story of one generation’s sacrifice and steadfast devotion, and a romance and faithfulness that transcend time.
