There were the Five Hegemons of the Spring and Autumn Period before them, and the Seven Heroes of the Warring States Period behind them.
But in my mind, Duke Zheng Zhuang is the first generation hero who opened the chapter of Spring and Autumn Period.
He endured it for decades, killing his brother and expelling his mother
He openly challenged the royal power, but also took advantage of the royal power
He is polite first and then fights. If he doesn't accept it, he will do it.
He makes friends from far away and attacks close by, and will avenge his enemies.
He instills fear in his opponents and admiration in his allies
Respecting the king and repelling the barbarians, holding the emperor hostage to command the princes, are all summed up and applied by later generations.

Novels and film and television works from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period mostly focus on the Qin State, followed by Wu and Yue, but the Zheng State, which kicked off the Spring and Autumn Period, is rarely mentioned. Look at the Spring and Autumn Period Xiaoba during the period of Zheng Zhuanggong from a modern perspective.
Many scenes quote the Book of Songs, which is more in line with the humanities of that era.
It even comes with biographies, which is really thoughtful.
I'm not very familiar with Spring and Autumn History, but if I read it from a novel, the logic is relatively clear, and there are also character foreshadowings.
