The Strange Cases of Clearing Injustice

During the Great Yong era, beneath the prosperous age, strange cases occurred one after another.

Corpse-driving in western Hunan, ghost fires in mass graves, phantom ships in the deep sea, the steaming-bones case in the Golden Hall...

People all said ghosts and gods were at work, and Heaven was sending down punishment.

Only Song Chen, a disgraced coroner banished from office, knew the truth:

All appearances are illusions.

Corpses decay, but evidence does not; people lie, but the dead do not.

With a red oil-paper umbrella in hand, he speaks for the dead and seeks justice for the living in a mass grave on a stormy night.

But when his scalpel cuts through layer upon layer of fog, he discovers that the most horrifying thing is not an evil spirit, but the terrified human hearts yearning for “immortality.”
