General Cai E was known as a child prodigy when he was a child. He was admitted as a scholar at the age of twelve. Later, he was admitted to the Changsha Current Affairs School, where he studied under Liang Qichao, and then went east to Japan to study. He graduated from the Japanese Military Academy and was known as the "Three Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officers" along with Jiang Baili and Zhang Xiaozhun. He held the Chongjiu Uprising, overthrew the Qing Dynasty's rule in Yunnan, and was promoted to governor. Later, he went to Beijing to assist Yuan Shikai and was secretly monitored by Yuan Shikai. When Yuan Shikai proclaimed himself emperor, he and Liang Qichao conspired to rebel against Yuan. They pretended to be degenerate and wandered into Huajieliuxiang. They were able to escape and returned to Yunnan to defend the country and fight against Yuan Yiqi. Cai E took an oath when he fell ill and defeated Yuan Shikai's 100,000 elite troops in Beiyang with thousands of exhausted troops. He relied on his lone loyalty to rebuild the republic. It is a pity that he died young at the age of 34. He left behind nothing but a proud body that shines brightly with the sun and the moon, and a long history. A generation of military strategists went to the national disaster with a sick body and built monuments with their blood.
