Making Money in the Seventies and Helping My Whole Family Live the Good Life

Eighteen-year-old Lin Xiaomei is the fifth child in her family, with two older brothers and two older sisters. Her father, Lin Jianguo, is a truck driver for the county transport team and spends most of the year on the road. Her mother, Wang Xiulan, runs the household, and all seven of them are crammed into two single-story apartments provided by the textile mill. In the spring of 1975, her father is injured in a long-distance trucking accident, cutting off the family’s only reliable income. How will eighteen-year-old Xiaomei use her own hard work to give her family a better life?
