Synopsis

[No national fate system + infinite-flow horror + rule-based mysteries + modern reimagining of Journey to the West + one heroine]

Li Zhou is transported into an apocalyptic prophecy novel. On New Year’s Day, 2026, the supernatural arrives right on schedule.

The homeroom teacher’s head spins 180 degrees on the lectern, and a classmate’s face grows out of their throat.

He accidentally binds himself to a horror livestream System: the more frightened the viewers are, the more points he earns.

So he farms points, breaks rules, plays Tang Sanzang, makes pacts with the supernatural, and fights alongside female ghosts. He vows to cut his way through the Eighty-One Tribulations and become a savior who defies fate.

Until the System dons a kasaya and turns into the real Tang Sanzang. Only then does this fake Pilgrim realize:

He has become the greatest driving force behind the apocalypse. All his rampaging has been a sacrifice of humanity, and he has been working for the corruption all along.

Every dungeon in this book draws inspiration from Journey to the West and real life, but it does not aim to recreate the original. Instead, it deconstructs and reconstructs the story in a modern, supernatural-horror style.

In short, the form is different, but the spirit is the same. Li Zhou’s Eighty-One Tribulations are all the hardships of real life.

The Monkey King and the others will also appear as modern people, in ways that fit the logic of “modern supernatural horror.”

One or perhaps several dungeons may plunge straight into the strange, fantastical world of Journey to the West, but most will still take place in the familiar present day.

So if you’re hoping for a traditional Journey to the West story, this book may disappoint you. Consider this your warning and steer clear.

Traditional Infinite-Flow Stories, No Beginner-Level Writing, and Nothing About Going Global or Being Invincible

I don’t want brainless stories. No filler like chat groups, and no main-god space. I only want a lone protagonist traveling between different worlds, without involving any other transmigrators.

Looking for a book about a rules-based horror game. It's based on the Handan bullying incident and features an apple orchard. I read it on another device and can't remember the title.
