This is a "reverse time travel" story - it is not that modern people travel to ancient times, but that mythical creatures and gods from the Classic of Mountains and Seas era collectively traveled to modern China due to some kind of catastrophe. The protagonist Lu Mingxuan (a graduate student in the Department of Archeology) triggered the ancient prohibition during the Qinling Archaeology and became the only "timer" who can communicate with the two worlds. He was forced to be involved in this collision of civilizations that spanned thousands of years.
