The Eighties’ Wicked Mother-in-Law Uses Her Cooking to Help Her Foolish Daughter-in-Law Fight Back

[Reborn + period food + mother-in-law and daughter-in-law life + everyday family matters + Northeast forestry camp + satisfying face-slapping]

In her previous life, Zhao Cuihua was a wicked mother-in-law who couldn’t see the truth.

She listened to her eldest daughter-in-law’s lies, bullied Wang Xiaoya, her younger son’s wife, after her husband died, and drove her out of the house.

Then, after Zhao Cuihua suffered a stroke, her eldest son left her to die in the snow. It was Xiaoya, the very “bringer of bad luck” she had despised, who carried her home and stayed by her side until the end.

When she opens her eyes, Zhao Cuihua is back in 1982 at a forestry camp in the Greater Khingan Mountains.

Seeing Xiaoya being forced to haul timber, Zhao Cuihua slaps her eldest daughter-in-law across the face. “Get lost! Who said you could order my daughter-in-law around?”

From then on, the forestry camp witnesses a strange sight: stingiest Auntie Zhao makes braised pork and pan-fried fish cakes for her foolish daughter-in-law in all sorts of ways, every single day.

People laugh at her for being a fool. She laughs because they don’t know what she knows.

With a rundown canteen under contract and the finest mountain produce at her fingertips, Zhao Cuihua and her simple-minded daughter-in-law make a warm and happy life for themselves.

“Anyone who dares bully my Xiaoya won’t get a meal at the canteen today!”
