Above the Clouds, You Are My Way Home

Five years ago, he ended everything with a text: “Let’s stop here.” She deleted every way to contact her and vanished without a trace.

Five years later, they met again at a bidding conference. He was now the man at the helm of a business empire, and his gaze passed over her as if she were a stranger. “Ms. Lin,” he said coolly, “I hope your expertise lives up to this opportunity.”

She thought the past had long been buried, and threw herself into the old-city redevelopment project he assigned her. It was the very place that held the painful memories of her childhood and her parents. He remained strictly professional, relentlessly critical, and repeatedly rejected her proposals.

Yet one drunken night, he gripped her waist, his scorching breath burning against her ear. “These past five years... did you ever think about me?”

When she discovered that the project was tied to the truth behind her parents’ mysterious deaths years ago, when all the evidence pointed to his family, and when she found a photograph of his father among her own father’s belongings

he shielded her with his body when danger struck, letting shards of glass pierce his back. His voice hoarse, he said, “Xixi, trust me just this once.”

Above the clouds, he had long ago built a fortress.

Amid the fog, he guarded his secret alone.

“This time, no matter who comes for you, even if they can turn the world upside down,” he said, wiping the blood from her face, his gaze as unyielding as stone, “I will never let you go.”

As love returns entangled with old family grudges, and trust teeters on the edge of the truth

at the deepest heart of Yun Mountain, a light finally shines for the one who came home late.
