My Talented Pen Pal Is Actually the Academy’s Number One Goddess

I, Gu Ping, only want to keep my head down, study, and take the imperial exams, but my talent keeps trying to leap out on its own!

My father was a God of War. His last words to me were: “The tallest tree catches the wind. You must hide your abilities!”

So I tried my best to play the part of an ordinary scholar.

When I played the flying-flower poetry game with my roommates, I only wanted to come up with some random line to get by.

Instead, I blurted out, “Flowers fall, and there is nothing I can do; swallows return, as if I’ve seen them before.”

My talented roommate bowed on the spot. “Brother Gu, you truly are the poetry immortal of our generation! Let me pay my respects!”

Me: No, I just recited a line from a textbook!

At military training in the academy, I only wanted to stand as crookedly as everyone else.

But my body instinctively struck the military stance my father had taught me, and my commanding presence was unleashed.

The iron-blooded instructor was dumbstruck. “A promising recruit! You were born to be a general!”

Me: Don’t! I just want to be a civil official and coast through life!

Then, at the freshman gala, my roommates tricked me into taking the stage to perform a duet with the ice-cold goddess.

Me: This is it. I can’t hide anymore. I’ll just sing a couple of lines.

But the moment I opened my mouth, I was singing, “Sober, I raise a lamp and gaze upon my sword,” all about warhorses and battlefields, brimming with bloodlust.

The whole academy, teachers and students alike: “With a pen, he can bring peace to the land; on horseback, he can secure it! Gu Ping! Gu Ping!”

Watching the crowd go wild below the stage, I was on the verge of tears.

Dad, I’m sorry. I really can’t hide my abilities!
