In the modern world, cities overlap with the mysterious realms of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Some people awaken the bloodline of beast tamers, allowing them to form contracts with the mythical creatures of the Classic and establish Beast Tamer Alliances to carve up territory. The protagonist, Lin Ye, comes from a beast-taming family with a thousand-year legacy. But when his family is massacred by their supposed allies for protecting the secret treasures of the Shanhai Prison, he awakens the Prison Lord bloodline. It allows him to communicate with the Shanhai Prison, where ferocious beasts are sealed, and form contracts with the imprisoned “Sin Beasts.” These beasts are incredibly powerful, but Lin Ye must feed them his own baleful energy, and each contract exposes him to the corresponding beast's murderous aura. His enemies include Zhao Shanhe, the hypocritical leader of the Beast Tamer Alliance; Lin Xiao, a treacherous member of his own clan; and the overseas organization Beast Hunters, which covets the secret treasures.
